My Financial Journey
My name is Michael Creighton, and this is my Financial Journey!
Following the world’s lead, I got my first credit card at 16. While I wasn’t reckless with money, I wasn’t strategic either. I had no clear plan for saving, spending, or investing. When my wife of 30 years and I got married, neither of us brought strong financial habits—good or bad—into the relationship. We simply made it work and drifted through financially.
In the early 2000s, we took Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University at our church. As young newlyweds, we applied a few principles but didn’t fully commit. We got by, but we didn’t experience true financial peace.
Then one day, as I was looking over a credit card bill and the interest charges, it hit me: I was literally paying someone interest just to delay paying back what I owed—only to end up paying them anyway! That was my wake-up call. My wife and I decided to adjust our sails, fully embrace the 7 Baby Steps, and finally set a course toward financial peace.
Today, with God's grace and Dave's plan, we are completely debt-free, and the freedom that brings is indescribable. That transformation stirred in me a desire to help others find the same freedom. I went on to complete the Dave Ramsey Financial Coach Master Training, and now, through Harbor of Hope Financial Coaching, I get to walk alongside individuals and families to help them navigate their own journey—toward peace, purpose, and a safe financial harbor.
